Functional Capacity Evaluations

image of representing functional capacity evaluationA Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a physical assessment of an individual's ability to perform work- related activity. It can also be known as a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA), Physical Capacity Assessment or Evaluation (PCA or PCE), or Work Capacity Assessment or Evaluation (WCA or WCE).

ECM offers a well-designed FCE that is comprehensive in terms of encompassing the physical demands of work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT.)1.

The FCE may be used to determine:

  1. Goals for rehabilitation or readiness for discharge
  2. Return to work status (including full duty, modified/transitional duty)
  3. Case settlement
  4. Disability status
  5. Ability to meet job demands as part of a hiring process(for preemployment/post-offer testing)
